A Candidate from the Community, for the Community
John is a passionate New Brunswicker with a demonstrated commitment to public service. As a former two-term MP, John is an experienced law maker and has held leadership roles in the energy sector, regulatory affairs, and public policy development. John is leaving his role as the President and CEO of the New Brunswick Business Council to return to public life because he was approached to do so by a broad coalition of community members, just like you!
As Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, John represented every region of the new provincial riding of Hampton-Fundy-St. Martins. During that time, he served as a leading member of the Standing Committee for the Environment, including a term as its Vice-Chair.
John and his Team are building a broad and unlikely coalition of centrists, those who believe in big tent politics not rigid ideology, one that is open to ideas, respectful of citizens, and committed to making a positive difference in our communities.

John is an avid runner, having completed ten consecutive, Boston Marathons. John has been connected to the Hampton-Fundy-St. Martins for four decades since the days when he represented New Brunswick as a member of the 1985 Canada Games Soccer Team. That’s the experience and leadership he will bring to Fredericton. Our province will be the better with John as a member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick.
Experience
“The principal reason for returning to public life and seeking election to the Legislative Assembly is based on the encouragement from within the riding where I have been urged to lead a broad and unlikely coalition of community support to ensure Hampton-Fundy-St. Martins representation in Fredericton reflects the progressive nature of our communities.
In recent days I have been reminded that I offer a wealth of experience as a law maker and as one who has worked with legislation for most of my professional career.
My two terms in Ottawa as a Member of Parliament for Fundy-Royal, provided me with a sense of the country that I would not have obtained otherwise. I have had the unique privilege to work with and observe four different Prime Ministers. I offer a wealth of experience as an elected official and a lawmaker to Hampton-Fundy-St Martins and to the floor of the Legislative Assembly in Fredericton.
I am grateful to have benefitted from a unique vantage point to each of these leaders: Prime Minister Joe Clark's Parliamentary skills and unique understanding of our country, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien’s ability to connect with the voter, Prime Minister Paul Martin's focus on taking on tough domestic challenges of bettering our relations with First Nations and his fiscal stewardship that wrestled the deficit in the wake of recession and of course the palpable political courage of Brian Mulroney leading change domestically in the areas of trade, fiscal reform and on the environment, and for his international leadership within the world's most important multilateral institutions.”
